GM’s recent promotion allows the customer to choose between a $500 instant cash incentive (which 99.7% of sales opted for) or be given the opportunity to return the car within 60 days. Out of the 220,000 vehicles sold, 653 chose to take advantage of the money back guarantee and of those, 193 opted to return the car and walk away.
GM’s President of global product engineering, Mark Reuss what quoted as saying “In several cases, returning customers traded up to another GM vehicle that has more features than the one originally purchased.”
Despite the returns GM sees the program as a success and has decided to extend the promotion until January 4th 2010
